UISCE Volunteers

Donum est in provocatione: Tá an Bronntanas sa Dúshlán: The gift is in the challenge

“Volunteers, Interns and Scholars all experience the same cross-cultural immersion while engaging with an international cohort of peers and the local community.”

Our Initiatives

International volunteers are at the heart of UISCE’s mission of exploring resistances to peacebuilding. They live on campus and normally work Monday to Thursday, from 9 am to 4.30 pm, with a 30 min morning coffee break and 1 hour for lunch. The work varies quite a bit, and we aim to match it with your skills and interests. In addition to day-to-day work such as cooking, cleaning, repairing and maintaining the centre, work also includes marketing, administration, research, social media and fund-raising; with some volunteers participating in our peacebuilding work. Some lead research that grounds the UISCE Leaders’ programmes and others will prepare exhibitions, help produce our annual journal, and maintain our digital community.

UISCE Interns focus on one area of UISCE’s operation, such as programme research, marketing, our digital community, or copywriting. Interns are typically undergraduates who receive credit through their university. Now we need the following kinds of people for example:

Social Media Managers

Peace Studies Researchers

Skilled Manual help [carpenters, painters, plasterers]

Catering staff

Youth workers

Fundraisers / grant applications

Admin & Accounts Assistant

UISCE Scholars: The UISCE scholars programme is made up of university students, graduates, teachers, professors or others with particular expertise who periodically join the UISCE community to research a specific project related to peace in Ireland. Scholars are encouraged to pursue projects within their area of interest, where these coincide with UISCE’s mission. Past projects have included a study of the extent to which all schools in Ireland engage with the peace process.

UISCE’s Scholars Programme is a more specialised or advanced role than UISCE’s Volunteer or Intern programmes. It will be of particular appeal to academics or professionals with a greater understanding of issues pertaining to peace-building. Both UISCE Interns & Scholars provide a platform for research-based studies, and to develop a published paper that is distributed to relevant political and community leaders.

UISCE Scholars typically stay from three months onwards. However, shorter lengths of time are also possible depending on the research topic and if a scholar or intern is functioning as part of a team, contributing to a larger project.
