Hello everyone! How was your Bank Holiday? This week we want to show you a very spectacular place that you definitely cannot miss! Lissadell House!

Follow in the footsteps of W.B Yeats in wandering through this beautifully restored estate on the shores of the Atlantic. Childhood home of Countess Markievicz, Lissadell is the crucible of Ireland’s historic, literary & garden heritage. In fact, The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall unveiled a plaque commemorating the Gore-Booth sisters Eva and Countess Markievicz at Lissadell in May 2015.

Lissadell house is a wonderful visitor experience for all the family, with woodland, river and seashore walks.  The house and gardens have always been a magical and enchanted place. Enjoy the different exhibitions and the best views.

The Countess Markievicz Exhibition was opened in 2007 and includes Countess’s Plans for the 1916 rising, written in a Polish notebook; her Civil War Sketches, her paintings, her political writings and even photographs of the young Constance Gore-Booth.

The Yeats Gallery at Lissadell was opened on 1st of August 2010 by poet and songwriter Leonard Cohen, who told a 20,000-strong concert audience that he had studied Yeats as a Small School boy in Montreal and was still inspired by him.

The Alpine Garden was created in 1740 as a pleasure garden attached to first house built by the Gore-Booths in the 1600s.  By the 1920s it was an exhibition garden for alpine and herbaceous plants collected and bred by Sir Josslyn Gore-Booth, a noted horticulturist.
